There are three common types: 4-jaw, 5-jaw, and direct mounted
4-claw style
The largest amount in the market and the most versatile。
(1) 104BCD 4 claws
1. Applicable models: Models for circulation by mountain car owners
2. Adaptation and positioning: off-road mountain, forest road mountain, commuter mountain, off-road downhill entry
3. Suitable for variable speed: 8/9/10/11/12 speed universal compatible
4. Tooth count range: single disc 28T—52T, double disc / three disc combination is mostly
5. Suitable brands: Shimano all mountain, Haomeng, Pengyang, FSA, most domestic cranks
6. Features: The most complete accessories, the price is close to the people, the easiest replacement, and the dealer’s first choice for stock
96BCD 4 claws
There are two shapes called 96BCD (section circle diameter 96mm), but the hole position angle is different, and the discs cannot be interchanged.
Symmetrical 96BCD
Old Shimano / universal standard, 4 holes evenly distributed，0°-90°-180°-270°， The angle between the holes is 90°.
Asymmetric 96BCD
(96X/ Shimano Asymmetric): After 2014, Shimano Mountain mainstream (SLX/X/XTR), the hole is not evenly 90°, but narrower and wider, asymmetrical left and right, specially optimized for rigidity, chain line, and front derailleur transmission.
110BCD 4 claws
1. Applicable models: standard recreational road bikes, flat roads, gravel roads 2. Adaptation and positioning: daily cycling, long-distance leisure, urban transportation, road bikes 3. Mainstream combination: 50-34T compressed disk is the mainstream combination 4. Suitable brands: FSA, Xinrui, domestic highway crank, entry Shimano Highway 5. Features: Moderate weight, the most comfortable specification for daily riding
5-jaw style (fixed with five screws, high-end classic structure)
The force is more uniform, the disc is more stable, and it is mostly used in high-end sports models.
110BCD 5 claws
1. Applicable models: mid-range sports road bikes, retro roads, high-end flat-handle roads
2. Suitable brands: old Shimano 105/UT, Compagro niche styles
3. Advantages: The riding vibration is small, the disc is not easy to deform, and the long-distance durability is good
4. Restriction: It cannot be mixed with 4-jaw 110BCD, and the screw hole position does not match.
130BCD 5 claws
1. Applicable models: top competition roads, field cars, professional time trial cars
2. Positioning: professional events, high-intensity racing use
3. Features: Rigid and full, the limit force is not easy to yaw, and it belongs to the high-end niche specifications
4. Market status quo: Civilian vehicles are rarely used, and most are selected for professional modification.
Direct-mounted (no traditional claw holes, integrated locking structure)
No external 4-jaw / 5-jaw screw holes, relying on built-in buckles and special screws to fix directly on the crank, no concept of BCD pitch, extremely high brand barriers, cross-brand can not be universal
SRAM
1. Structure: Built-in 3 eccentric fixing screws to lock the disc
2. Cover models： •Mountain: SX/NX/GX/EAGLE all 12-speed mountain cranks • Highway: New FlatTop flat-top integrated straight-mounted plate
3. Exclusive features: Only suitable for SRAM’s own DUB axis crank, other brands cannot be installed
4. Advantages: Compact structure, accurate variable speed, excellent lightweight
5. Disadvantages: The versatility is extremely poor, and the disc can only be replaced with the same series
SHIMANO
1. Structure: crank one-piece disc seat, hidden special fixed structure
2. Cover models： •Mountain: SLX/X/XTR M7100/M8100/M9100 12-speed high-end mountain •Highway: 105/UT/DA new R7200/R8200/R9200 all series of roads
3. Exclusive features: Strictly standard in the brand, only Shimano is compatible with the same model
4. Subdivided styles: including two branches of CUES built-in one-piece straight-mounted and high-end hollow one-piece straight-mounted
5. Features: The factory has a very high degree of matching, the failure rate is low, and the original parts are mainly used.
